There is an island in the southern Indian Ocean, called Ile Amsterdam, that is 12,245 miles from the heart of downtown Denver. Ile Saint-paul, close by, is 12,287 miles away. These islands are antipodes to areas in Colorado, meaning they are land areas on the exact opposite side of the earth, of which the continental U.S. has only three.
